Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmakers on Monday protested in Rajya Sabha against the alleged comments of Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar about changing the Constitution to provide reservations to Muslims, prompting the adjournment of the House proceedings until 2 pm without transacting any business.
NEW DELHI:
Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju did not name Shivakumar when he was given the floor in Rajya Sabha to explain what the BJP lawmakers were agitating about. In a post on X, Rijiju said Congress is openly saying they will change the Constitution to give reservations to Muslims. "Where are all those fake people who insulted Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and keep shouting about protecting the Constitution?" he said on X as he posted a video of Shivakumar purportedly making the comments.
In Bengaluru, Shivakumar denied making comments about changing the Constitution, "I have never said we would change the Constitution. The BJP is carrying out propaganda. I will fight it legally," he said while speaking to reporters at his Sadashivanagar residence.

'Bail is the rule but doesn't mean entitlement to relief
Emphasising that the principle that “bail is the rule and jail, an exception,” does not entitle all accused to automatic relief, the Supreme Court has held that courts must also weigh the specific role of each accused, the gravity of the alleged offence, and its impact on society before granting bail.

SC seeks balance between free speech and privacy
The Supreme Court on Monday stressed the importance of a balanced approach to regulating YouTube and similar platforms, cautioning that inflexible and harsh rules to regulate YouTubers and those on similar digital platforms could impose a “gag on free speech” and prove “devastating\", even as it acknowledged the growing need for an effective mechanism to protect privacy, dignity and reputation of individuals and organisations from harmful online content.
