THE AUDITOR POINTED OUT THE 'IRREGULAR' PROCUREMENT OF 83,560 CYCLES WORTH ₹32.78 CRORE FOR REGISTERED WORKERS DURING 2018-2022
DEHRADUN: An audit report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has said that over 31,000 bicycles worth ₹10.82 crore and over 22,000 toolkits, which were procured by the Uttarakhand government for registered construction workers in the state, were missing.
The report, titled "Welfare of building and other construction workers for the year ended March 31, 2022", was tabled in the state assembly on Thursday.
The audit report details the implementation of welfare schemes for building and other construction workers (BOCW).
As per a government order from February 2015, cycles were to be provided to BOCW registered with the state government to ensure they reach their workplace on time. During 2017-2022, 85,000 out of 366,352 registered workers were provided cycles.
The CAG observed "irregular" procurement of 83,560 cycles worth ₹32.78 crore during 2018-2022.
