JMM Raises Concern Over Delimitation

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Saturday raised questions about the upcoming delimitation process of the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha seats, emphasising that states under the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution, including Jharkhand, would be at a disadvantage.

Addressing a press conference, JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said chief minister Hemant Soren would be attending the meeting hosted by his Tamil Nadu counterpart MK Stalin later this month.

"We protested the delimitation process in 2008, following which Jharkhand was exempted from it along with the northeastern states. CM Hemant Soren will be attending the meeting called by the Tamil Nadu chief minister on March 22, after which the future course of action will be decided," Bhattacharya said.

The JMM leader argued that, per the initial draft of the upcoming delimitation, the number of seats in the Hindi belt states in north, central, and west India would increase.

"However, the eastern, southern, and northeastern states would be at a disadvantage."
