IGIMS reserves two beds in emergency for medicos

The Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) has reserved two of its 16 beds in the emergency unit for its medical students, amid such demands by medicos and the Bihar chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Thursday, despite its Faculty Doctors Association (FDA) on Friday denying unavailability of a hospital bed for its student who died at a nearby private hospital on Thursday after a road accident at Patna's Hartali Mor on April 7.
PATNA:
The decision to earmark the beds was taken as a reconciliatory measure following the death of Abhinav Pandey, an MBBS second-year student of the IGIMS, at a nearby private hospital on Thursday, after being allegedly denied a ventilator-supported bed in the critical care medicine (CCM) unit of the institute.
"We have reserved two beds in the emergency for medicos," said Dr Bibhuti Prassan Sinha, deputy director, administration, of the IGIMS, in a text message to this reporter.
"We have allotted two beds to our medicos in the 16-bedded AB ward, which is our emergency," said Dr Samarendra Singh, officiating medical superintendent of the IGIMS on Friday.
