Heavy rainfall wreaks havoc in Chamoli

Heavy rainfall and cloudbursts wreaked havoc in Chamoli district, with flood waters and debris entering some residential areas and agricultural fields in two villages.

Authorities are on high alert, urging residents and pilgrims to exercise extreme caution.

According to Chamoli district officials, in the early hours of Tuesday around 4 am, due to heavy rainfall and cloudburst like situation in Mokh Malla Bagad Tok in Nandanagar Tehsil triggered debris flow, damaging a cowshed and a fish pond and two cowsheds in Durma Gwad Tok. Some homes were also inundated with debris due to heavy rainfall.

The SDRF team has rushed to the incident site and begun the rescue and relief work, said the district administration officials.

Sandeep Tiwari, District Magistrate Chamoli, said, “The Durma Gwad Tok and Mokh Malla Bagad Tok villages in Nandanagar tehsil experienced significant damage, including two cowsheds in Durma Gwad Tok and one cowshed along with a fishpond in Mokh Malla Bagad Tok, and the officials have been directed to conduct relief and rescue operations without any delay.”
