CBA Act change, mining dues among Soren's key demands

Chief minister Hemant Soren on Saturday urged the Centre to amend the Coal Bearing Areas (CBA) Act and ensure that mining firms return the mined land to the state government, even as he reiterated the state's demand for clearing payment of ₹1.4 lakh crore in "outstanding dues" with central mining firms.

Soren presented the Jharkhand government's views during the governing council meeting of NITI Aayog, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
"The CBA Act must be amended. Provisions should be added to ensure that mining firms return the land to the state government after the completion of mining. Additionally, there should be accountability on the mining firms for illegal mining in the state," the chief minister said.
