More efficient air-conditioners may help prevent the power cuts that every year overwhelm India during the hot season, according to a study by University of California, Berkeley.
Tightening energy efficiency standards for ACs could save 60 gigawatts in peak electricity demand by 2035, avoiding ₹7.5 lakh crore ($87 billion) of new generation and grid infrastructure, the study said.
