Cong Chalks Out Plan To Gherao House Today

Days after six Congress legislators, including party's state unit president Govind Singh Dotasra, were suspended, a Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting was held in the assembly on Sunday during which the leaders took the decision to stage a protest and gherao the House on Monday.

"There was no fault on the Opposition's side; it was the minister who was at fault. The Speaker didn't listen to us properly, and when Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra climbed the dais to get the statement expunged, six MLAs were suspended," Congress whip Rafiq Khan said.

During the Question Hour on Friday, social justice and empowerment minister Avinash Gehlot said, "In the 2023-24 budget of also, like always, you named the scheme (on working women's hostels) after your 'Dadi' (grandmother) Indira Gandhi." The remark led to uproar in the House which led to three adjournments. Government chief whip Jogeshwar Garg moved a proposal to suspend Congress MLAs Govind Singh Dotasra, Ramkesh Meena, Amin Kagzi, Jakir Hussain, Hakam Ali and Sanjay Kumar, which was passed by voice vote.
