CAG report flags major lapses in state seed firm

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India highlighted serious inefficiencies in the functioning of Rajasthan State Seeds Corporation Limited (RSSCL), revealing significant shortcomings in seed production, distribution, and storage between 2017-22.

The findings, tabled in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly earlier, underscore concerns over the Corporation’s failure to meet its own targets, poor monitoring mechanisms, and substantial financial lapses.

According to the audit, the Corporation failed to distribute the entire quantity of breeder and foundation seeds available for multiplication. This led to a substantial loss, with 827.18 quintals of breeder seeds and 35,250 quintals of foundation seeds becoming unfit for distribution. As a result, the potential production of 20.75 lakh quintals of certified seeds was lost.

The report also pointed to the absence of a proper monitoring system to ensure that seed growers delivered the expected yield.
