SC notices to Centre, ECI on petition against use of Aadhaar in voter rolls

The Supreme Court on Tuesday sought the response of the Election Commission of India, the Centre, states and union territories on a petition challenging the use of Aadhaar card for enrolling new voters.
Issuing notice on a petition filed by lawyer Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, a bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and justice V Mohana said, "This issue is related to an earlier PIL. It is better both petitions are heard together for continuity and connectivity."
Upadhyay said that Form 6 which is the application form for enrolling new voters allows Aadhaar to be used as a proof of date of birth and proof of residence.
