Battle for legacy ensues as BJP, Cong pay tributes to Ambedkar

The 134th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar on Monday turned into a battle for the ownership of his legacy, with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party asserting that its government was guided by the vision of the framer of India's Constitution, even as opposition parties accused the BJP and the Centre of only paying lip service to him.
NEW DELHI:
President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla laid floral tributes at the statue of Bhimrao Ambedkar in the Parliament House Complex. They were joined by senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge in paying homage. Union ministers, MPs and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also offered their tributes.
