A three-wicket haul by Falak Naz, and unbeaten knocks by Sampada Dixit and Shipra Giri helped favourites Uttar Pradesh notch up a facile eight wickets win over Jharkhand to keep their hopes alive for a knockout berth in the Women's Under-23 one Day Trophy, at the KCA Cricket Ground, Mangalapuram, Trivandrum on Tuesday.

LUCKNOW:

Prayagraj's bowling all-rounder Naz bowled on perfect line and took 3/35 to restrict Jharkhand for 178/6 after Uttar Pradesh chose to field after winning the toss. And then Dixit and Giri stitched together unbeaten 146 runs for the third wicket to take Uttar Pradesh home in 37.1 overs.

Despite losing opener Tripti Singh (6) and Muskan Malik (9) early in the game while chasing 179 in 50 overs, Uttar Pradesh didn't lose heart and both Dixit and Giri kept stroking the ball nicely all around the ground. Singh was caught by Neha Kumari of Khushbu Kumari in the fifth over, and Malik was caught by Vijeeta of Shefa Hasan as Uttar Pradesh were reduced to 35/2 in 12.1 overs.
