Mann Writes to Shah, Seeks ₹600Cr to Fight Drug Menace

The drug problem in Punjab is disturbing the socio-economic balance, leading to an increase in crime, domestic violence, and health issues in the state, chief minister Bhagwant Mann said on Saturday, as he sought a one-time financial assistance of ₹600 crore from Union home minister Amit Shah for setting up special NDPS courts for faster disposal of drug-related cases.
CHANDIGARH:
Mann, who was virtually attending the regional conference on "Drug Trafficking and National Security," urged the Centre to give Punjab financial assistance for a period of 10 years with ₹60 crore for each to create a special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) courts and recruitment of public prosecutors.
