Experts for fund increase in higher edu

With the Uttar Pradesh Budget 2025-26 all set to be presented later this week, teachers and teachers' unions say there should be an increase in the allocation of funds for higher education.

While the overall budget in the state has increased at an average of 9.1% in the last four years, the general education under the head higher education has recorded an average of 7.5% increase, says Vineet Verma, faculty, mathematics department, Lucknow University.

Similarly, there has been an average increase of 8.4% and 7.1% in general education under the head of primary and secondary education respectively, he adds.

Experts suggest that investment in higher education is equally essential for the state to achieve a 1 trillion-dollar economy goal by 2030.

Dean Arts, Lucknow University, and economist Prof Arvind Mohan said for achieving the 1 trillion-dollar economy goal, it is important to have other contributors apart from the actual investments.
