After the suspension of the Indian Premier League for a week, the ITF J30 tennis tournament found itself in murky waters with all players from abroad opting out of the event in the wake of the escalating tension between India and Pakistan.
LUCKNOW:
The event is set to begin at the Vijayant Khand Stadium here on Monday.
Even before the last-minute withdrawal by foreign players on the eve of the two-day qualifying rounds on Friday, top 50 Indians had already chosen not to play.
Players from several countries such as USA, Britain, China, Korea, Japan and Taiwan had sent their entries for the competition. Due to the India-Pakistan tension, the foreign players withdrew their names on the last day of the sign-in. Now, top-ranked players of India will have a chance to collect vital ITF points.
