A day after the tragic crash of an Air India flight claimed the lives of over 240 people, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday visited the crash site in Ahmedabad and took stock of the situation before meeting the injured and relatives of former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani who was killed in the incident.
NEW DELHI:
Officials said that Modi arrived at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Friday morning and drove straight to the crash site in Meghaninagar. He spent around 20 minutes inspecting the site, where the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft (AI-171) crashed into the BJ Medical College complex seconds after taking off on Thursday afternoon.
"We are all devastated by the air tragedy in Ahmedabad. The loss of so many lives in such a sudden and heartbreaking manner is beyond words. Condolences to all the bereaved families. We understand their pain and also know that the void left behind will be felt for years to come. Om Shanti," Modi said in a post on X.
During the visit, Modi was joined by Union civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu, Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra and deputy chief minister Harsh Sanghavi among others.
