Rain lashes parts of UK, 82 roads closed

In one of the major incidents, three people were trapped in the strong currents of a swollen seasonal stream near Kainchi Wala in the Selaqui area of Dehradun on Tuesday night. They were rescued by State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) hours later.

The rescue operation was led by additional sub-inspector Suresh Tomar, who along with his team, used a raft to safely evacuate the stranded people, according to SDRF officials.

The Dehradun centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued an orange alert for Dehradun, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Nainital, and Bageshwar districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall and lightning at isolated locations till Thursday. The remaining districts are under a yellow alert, with a forecast of intense rainfall spells. The IMD further predicted that on Friday, heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Pauri, Nainital, and Bageshwar districts.
