- HT Correspondent

HARIDWAR/DEHRADUN: Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar was detained and his supporters lathi-charged on Friday while he was on his way to Laksar in Haridwar district to address a rally convened to protest the recent firing at his camp office by former MLA Pranav Singh Champion, police said.

The independent legislator was detained from Lacchiwala toll plaza and brought to the Doiwala police station as a precautionary measure to prevent tension between supporters of the two leaders from escalating, said an official.
