Couple killed, four cops injured in separate road accidents

VARANASI: An elderly couple died after being run over by a truck on the Varanasi-Shaktinagar Marg near the collectorate turn in Lodhi, under the Robertsganj police station area.
The victims, identified as Amrit Urao, 75, and his wife Mantorni Devi, 70, both residents of Kachnarwa village in the Kon area, were riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by their 30-year-old son Dharmendra.
According to police, the family had visited Mission Hospital in Robertsganj for an eye check-up for the father. They were en route to the collectorate for some additional work when the accident occurred. A police official stated that as they were crossing the road on the bike, a truck struck them from behind, causing the couple to die on the spot. Their son, Dharmendra, was thrown from the vehicle and sustained only minor injuries.
