RS approves bills amid Oppn walkout over SIR

Members of various opposition parties, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, on Tuesday staged a walkout in the Rajya Sabha against the government's unwillingness to discuss the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, soon after two key bills aimed at better sports governance were taken up for consideration in the post-lunch session.
Amid the ruckus, the Rajya Sabha passed The National Sports Governance Bill, 2025 and The National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The House also returned The Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and The Income-Tax Bill, 2025 to the Lok Sabha.
Soon after Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya moved the two sports bill for consideration and passage, Kharge raised the issue of ongoing SIR in pollbound Bihar, accusing the government of not allowing a debate on the issue.
