Delhi irrigation and flood control (I&FC) minister Parvesh Verma on Wednesday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government will roll out a series of measures to clean the Yamuna, adding that around 1,300 metric tonnes of garbage that was floating on the river has been removed over the past 10 days.
NEW DELHI:
Verma said the government will, over the next two years, develop sewage treatment plants (STPs) for 18 drains that empty into the river, adding that work is on to remove encroachments and restore the floodplains.
The minister made the remarks after visiting the Yamuna in the morning, before taking a boat ride from Boat Club near Chandiram Akhara till the ITO barrage.
Cleaning the Yamuna was one of the key promises of the BJP in the Delhi assembly polls.
