2 infants bitten by rats at Indore hospital; 1 dies, another stable

Two newborn babies ‘were bitten by rats while undergoing treatment at a government-run hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district, officials said on Tuesday, adding that one of them, a 10-day-old girl, died of septicaemia while the other infant was stable.
The incident took place at the Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital (MYH) in Indore, officials said.
Dr Arvind Ghanghoria, dean of the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College, said the girl was undergoing treatment at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for multiple ailments, including septicaemia, and was abandoned by her parents.
Preliminary examination found rat bites on the head and the shoulder of the girl.
