The West Bengal education department on Monday directed the South Calcutta Law College to suspend two students and terminate the services of a non-teaching staffer accused of gang-raping a 24-year-old student of the institute on June 25, officials aware of the matter said.
KOLKATA:
Giving details of the probe into the case, a police officer said the three accused had preplanned the crime, adding that they have a history of sexually harassing female students of the college.
"The entire matter was premeditated. The trio had been plotting for several days to carry out this torture on the victim. We have found that the victim was targeted by the prime accused from the very first day she got admission to the college," the police officer was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
The first-year student of South Calcutta Law College was allegedly gang-raped on June 25 by the three men. A day later, Monojit Mishra (31), a former student who is a non-teaching staffer at the institution, and two students—Zaib Ahmed (19) and Pramit Mukherjee (20)—were arrested on June 26 on the basis of the victim's complaint. A security guard at the college, identified as Pinaki Banerjee, was arrested on June 28.
