Residents' body files contempt plea over NGT order violation

NGT HAD ORDERED DISCONTINUING ILLEGAL EFFLUENT DISCHARGE INTO THE WATER BODY
LUDHIANA: Public Action Committee (PAC) has filed a contempt petition before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) against the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) and common effluent treatment plants (CETPs) for failing to comply with NGT's orders and continuing to allow illegal effluent discharge into the water body.
The petition names the member secretary and chief engineer of the PPCB, along with directors of the Bahadur-Ke CETP, for "wilful disobedience" of NGT's orders, especially after the tribunal had directed closure of the CETPs in November 2024.
