T’gana says won't discuss Polavaram at key meet

The Telangana government on Tuesday wrote to Union ministry of jal shakti opposing the inclusion of Polavaram-Banakacherla link project proposed by Andhra Pradesh in the agenda for the apex council meeting between the chief ministers of the two states, scheduled to be held in New Delhi on Wednesday, officials said.

The long-awaited apex council meeting between the two states on irrigation issues has been called for by Union Jal Sakthi minister CR Patil at his chambers at 2 pm on Wednesday. Chief minister A Revanth Reddy and his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu are expected to attend the meeting. The last meeting between the two states was held on October 6, 2020.

While Andhra government submitted a single proposal on Polavaram-Banakacharla link project for the agenda to be discussed at the meeting, the Telangana government has raised a strong objection to it and demanded that all the pending issues with regard to Krishna and Godavari river water sharing should be discussed.
