I fully respect and trust the law agencies and the Police of Karnataka and will comply with whatever is expected from me SONU NIGAM, Singer

- HT Correspondent

BENGALURU: The police of Monday issued notice to singer Sonu Nigam asking him to appear before the Bengaluru police following an FIR registered against him over controversial remarks made during a recent concert in the city.

The police on Monday served a notice to Nigam and the organisers of the event, seeking their response to the incident, said a senior police officer in the know of the development.

"During the show, when some people in the audience requested Kannada songs, Nigam made an objectionable statement. So, we registered a case at the Avalahalli police station. The matter is under investigation, and considering the seriousness of the issue, the inspector is handling it. The case relates to hurting the sentiments of Kannadigas," Bengaluru Rural district superintendent of police CK Baba said.

The FIR, filed on May 3 at Avalahalli police station, invokes Section 352 of BNS, which deals with acts intended to provoke a breach of peace. The complaint stems from an incident on April 25, when Nigam interrupted his performance after an audience member repeatedly demanded him to sing in Kannada. Reacting sharply to the heckling, he reportedly said, "Kannada. Kannada. This is the reason behind the incident in Pahalgam." The terror attack in south Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22 killed 22 people.
