125-year-old Kotwal House restored and opened for public

HYDERABAD: The 125-year-old Kotwal House at Purani Haveli in the old city of Hyderabad, which once housed the office of city police commissioner was fully restored and thrown open to the public on Wednesday.

Telangana minister for transport and backward classes welfare Ponnam Prabhakar inaugurated the heritage structure, which was built during the period of Sixth Nizam, Nawab Mir Mahabub Ali Khan, who ruled the Hyderabad state between 1869 and 1911.

Hyderabad police commissioner CV Anand, the man behind the restoration of the dilapidated heritage structure, said it was a long-awaited day for him, as his efforts to restore the old Kotwal Office at Purani Haveli proved fruitful.

"About four years ago, the roof of the building had caved in and it was prepared for demolition. But I just didn’t like the idea of destroying our heritage," he said.
