BETTIAH: An inquiry has been ordered into the deaths of seven people in West Champaran district of Bihar since January 15, a police officer aware of the matter said on Sunday, with local residents linking the deaths to consumption of spurious liquor in the dry state.
Though the first fatality occurred four days ago, police received information about the deaths on Sunday. "By then, the bodies of all seven had already been cremated," the officer added.
District superintendent of police Shaurya Suman said all the deaths were reported from the Lauriya police station area.
Locals blamed the deaths on consumption of spurious liquor, but the SP asserted that the reason behind at least two fatalities was not "hooch".
While one person had been hit by a tractor, another had suffered a paralytic attack, Suman said.
