World's largest container ship docks at Kerala seaport

The MSC IRINA, acknowledged as the world’s largest container ship by Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) capacity, docked at the Vizhinjam International Seaport on Monday morning in its maiden voyage to South Asia.

This significant arrival marks a milestone for Vizhinjam, which is operated by the Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), India’s largest private sector port operator. The vessel is scheduled to be berthed until Tuesday for transhipment.

The port operators said MSC IRINA’s remarkable capacity of 24,346 TEUs solidifies its status as a powerhouse in the global shipping industry.

With dimensions of 399.9 metres in length and 61.3 metres in width, the vessel is approximately four times longer than a standard FIFA-designated football field. This enables the efficient transport of vast quantities of cargo between Asia and Europe.
