Womanhood is resilience, leadership: UAE residents

Once again, March 8 (Saturday) is here and so the world observes and celebrates International Women's Day.

A lot has transpired since God created the universe, and Adam and Eve as co-equals; while Eve, as beguiled by Satan, the snake, cajoled Adam to eat the forbidden fruit.

From then on and throughout history, the hidden and exposed, and the yet-to-be-known narratives, of the walk of the woman, throughout failures and triumphs, ups and downs, have kept on flowing, even if there were restraints. Inspiring, beautiful and enlightening that this year's Oscar's, Best Foreign Film is "I'm Still Here."

Written by Murillo Hauser and Heitor Lorega with direction by Walter Salles - all Brazilians, "I'm Still Here," is based on the novel of the same title, by journalist/novelist/playwright Marcelo Rubens Paiva.

"I'm Still Here" brings to life and unravels to the world how Paiva's mother, Brazilian lawyer/ activist Maria Lucrecia Eunice Facciola Paiva - delineated in the film by Fernanda Montenegro and Fernanda Torres - carried on and brought up on her own, Marcelo and his four siblings, when family head, former Brazilian Labour Party legislator Rubens Bayodt Paiva, became a desparacido in 1971, during the turbulent martial law years (1964-1981) in their home country.
