Expelled Congress legislator Rahul Mamkootathil, 36, was taken into custody from his hotel room in Palakkad late on Saturday night in connection with a sexual assault case.
The arrest occurred shortly after midnight, prompting a swift police response. He was subsequently moved to a police camp in Pathanamthitta early on Sunday morning.
Later that afternoon, he appeared before a magistrate at her residence and was remanded in judicial custody for two weeks.
This is the third sexual assault allegation against the young legislator. The latest complaint was lodged by a woman from Kottayam who is currently residing in Canada.
A sessions court granted him pre-arrest bail in the second case, while the Kerala High Court stayed his arrest until Jan. 21 in the initial case, both involving similar charges.
