Our aim was to hit terror targets not civilians: India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was chaired a high-level meeting at his residence on Sunday with the top defence establishment.

The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, and the tri-services chiefs.

The meeting took place amid an uneasy calm on the borders with Pakistan, where no fresh ceasefire violations have been reported.

"Pakistan Army lost close to 35-40 of its personnel between May 7-10, when India launched retaliatory counterstrikes responding to its aggression," the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai said in a special press briefing on Sunday.

"India's military strikes into Pakistan-controlled Kashmir and Pakistan earlier this week killed more than 100 militants including their prominent leadership," DGMO said on Sunday.

He also said that the Operation Sindoor was conceptualised with a clear military aim to punish the perpetrators and planners of terror and to destroy their terror infrastructure.

"Our aim on the 7th of May was to target terrorists and their infrastructure, not any other infrastructure, especially not Pakistani civilian or military establishments, and we achieved this with precision.
