Kerala MPs raise health workers' strike in Parliament

The lawmakers from Kerala have demanded federal intervention to end the ongoing protests by community health workers in the state capital demanding higher wages.
The Accredited Social Health Activists (Ashas) have been on an indefinite sit-in before the State Secretariat for almost a month now, with the state government rejecting their demand.
Congress party member KC Venugopal alleged that the federal and state governments were blaming each other for the plight of some 26,000 Ashas in Kerala.
Another Congress member, Dr Shashi Tharoor, described them as "unsung heroes of India's healthcare system.
He reminded them that Ashas play an instrumental role in improving maternal and child health, increasing immunisation rates and maintaining nutrition and sanitation.
