Kerala ministers in bid to ease tensions with governor

Two ministers called on Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Sunday amid growing tensions between the two sides and intense criticism from the Supreme Court regarding the crisis in higher education.
The state government and the governor are engaged in a lengthy legal battle over their powers to appoint vice-chancellors at state universities, where the governor also serves as chancellor.
Law Minister P Rajeev and Higher Education Minister R Bindu, who met with the governor at Raj Bhavan - the governor's official residence - reportedly urged him to strictly adhere to the Supreme Court's directives on this issue.
