Kerala bans single-use plastic from October 2

Kerala High Court on Tuesday issued a comprehensive order banning the use and sale of single-use plastics at all wedding auditoriums, hotels, restaurants and official functions of the central and state governments conducted in the state from 2 October, Gandhi Jayanti day.

The ban is applicable in 10 hilly tourist destinations with high footfall, including Munnar, Thekkady, Vagamon, Athirappilly, ChalakudyAthirappilly sector, Nelliyampathy, Pookode Lake - Vythiri, Sultan Bathery, Karlad Lake, Ambalavayal, and Wayanad Heritage Museum. The ban is on the use and sale of water bottles of capacity below five litres, soft drink bottles of capacity lower than two litres, straws, plates, cups, and cutlery (all made of single-use plastic).
