India, Sri Lanka to sign new defence deal

NEW DELHI: India and Sri Lanka are working on an update of an existing agreement on defence cooperation that is expected to be concluded during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the island nation next week, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri revealed during a special media briefing in New Delhi on Friday.

After attending the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit in Bangkok, Modi is scheduled to travel to Sri Lanka on a State Visit from April 4-6 at the invitation of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
