Congress fires Kerala legislator facing multiple rape charges

The Congress party in Kerala expelled legislator Rahul Mamkootathil following serious sexual misconduct allegations and a court’s denial of his pre-arrest bail plea.
The party that leads the opposition, the United Democratic Front (UDF), had removed him from all positions and expelled him from the legislature party on August 25.
Congress leaders are now mounting pressure on the legislator, who has been absconding for a week now, to resign as a member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly.
Congress state unit chief Sunny Joseph said he was expelled from the primary membership, and it was up to him to resign from the state assembly.
