Gastric and gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) cancers remain a major global health challenge.
In 2025 alone, an estimated 1.2 million people worldwide will die from gastric or esophageal cancer — we need to do better, said Dr. Yelena Janjigian, Chief of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, USA.
In an email interview with Gulf Today, Dr. Yelena said, although incidence rates in the Middle East are lower than in East Asia, certain populations in the region face elevated risk due to dietary patterns, infectious exposures, and lifestyle-related factors.
