Expat who helped many get jobs returns to Kerala after 51 years

An Indian expat from Kerala, who lived for 51 years in Dubai, facilitating employment visa processing for thousands in his professional role while personally helping dozens from his hometown secure jobs, has returned home for good. And his grand welcome party has gone viral.

Thayyil Abdul Gafoor, 64, is fondly called the 'real-life Gafoor' by Malayalis in stark contrast to the fictional conman from the 1980s Malayalam cult comedy classic Nadodikkattu.

On his arrival at Calicut International Airport, Gafoor was welcomed by a busload of well-wishers shouting slogans. They rented a state-run KSRTC bus to transport him to his village, Maruthinchira, in Malappuram district. A coordinated drum ensemble greeted Gafoor at his village. This was followed by a public reception where a tribute video showcased his life.
