A ROUND-UP OF RECENT COMMENTS MADE

What local MPs have been discussing in Parliament

Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes MP, Melanie Onn, and Brigg and Immingham MP, Martin Vickers

THE issue of headlights glare has again been raised in Parliament by Martin Vickers, who said there is "a growing body of evidence about the dangers caused by headlight glare".

The Brigg and Immingham MP, whose constituency includes Grimsby's Scartho Ward, led a debate on the topic in the House of Commons last year.

A transport minister wrote to Mr Vickers at the year's start to inform him Government-commissioned independent research on the issue was expected to "be complete by the summer of 2025". In his most recent parliamentary intervention, the Conservative MP followed up for an update.

Read on below for more on the headlights glare issue, and a roundup of other recent parliamentary interventions and comments issued by the two MPs that cover the Grimsby area.

Stating there was growing evidence about the dangers of headlight glare, Mr Vickers asked for an indication of "when new regulations might be brought forward to reduce the risks?"

Transport minister Lilian Greenwood confirmed it is considering how to take the matter forward.

But she added it is "subject to international vehicle regulations."

The findings of the Government-commissioned research were announced earlier this month. 97 per cent of people surveyed found they were regularly or sometimes distracted by oncoming vehicles.
