|December 11, 2025
A PRIMARY school has joined an exclusive group of just ten schools across the country after receiving a rare triple platinum award for outdoor play.
Heron Primary School, based in Gloucester, has been officially named an OPAL Honours School one of the highest accolades in the UK for outdoor play and learning after securing its third consecutive Platinum Award through the Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) programme.
The award recognises the school's sustained commitment to enriching children's play experiences, with inspectors praising the school's culture as "a national exemplar" of how outdoor play can be embedded into daily school life.
Headteacher Claire Brooks was commended for her "inspirational" leadership in transforming Heron's outdoor spaces and curriculum, creating a culture where children's right to play is central to school policy and practice.
