Fisherman's shark catch raises climate concerns

Darren Gregory, 42, a former serviceman with the Royal Welsh, reeled in a tope shark off a Welsh beach at around 9am on Wednesday, June 25.

In a surprising turn of events while fishing at Coney Beach, Porthcawl, where bathers were seen enjoying the water, Darren, now a wind-turbine technician, encountered the shark shortly after adding a 7lb bass and a small-eyed ray to his tally.

"I caught a 7lb bass and I had a small ray. I turned around to release the bass and my rod started running off with the reel," recounted Darren.

"So I looked into it and next thing you know a bl**dy shark fin came out of the water."

He added: "I walked down and managed to get it on to the rocks and I lifted it out the water and I weighed it, obviously, and it was 28lb."
