Children's football coach caught with drugs haul

A CHILDREN’S football coach was found acting as a drugs courier for his cannabis supplier, a court has heard.

When police swooped on Alex Armstrong's car on the M4 motorway, they found ecstasy and cannabis edibles with a street value of almost £10,000, along with more than £1,000 in cash.

A judge at Swansea Crown Court told the defendant he could not understand how somebody in his position - and with so much to lose - had become involved in the “murky world of drugs’.

The judge told the 33-year-old he had put his employment and his family life in jeopardy, adding: “That's how much of a fool you have been.”

Sali Harmes, prosecuting, told the court that on March 10, 2023, police officers - acting on intelligence - stopped Armstrong’s vehicle as it headed westbound on the M4 near the Pont Abraham services.

She said when officers asked the defendant if he had anything in his car, he replied: “There's a bag in my boot which someone put there”
