On Friday morning, 15 August, 'n Volkswagen Polo het 'n perd tussen die Thembalethuen Pacaltsdorpbrûe getref. Die 41-jarige bestuurder is na die hospitaal geneem en later met geringe beserings ontslaan. Die perd is dood. Hierdie jongste ongeluk volg op verskeie ander voorvalle in onlangse weke.

Riding club calls for solutions

The Pacaltsdorp Riding Community (PRC) het hernieude oproepe gedoen vir dringende, praktiese oplossings vir die perdekrisis.

"Ten spyte van al ons pogings het die ergste gebeur, lewens het verlore gegaan, en byna ook 'n menslike lewe. As die enigste wettig erkende perde gemeenskap in Pacaltsdorp, is ons diep bedroef. Ons het gewerk om 'n hawe vir perde te skep en alle eienaars genooi om by ons aan te sluit, maar eenheid was moeilik om te bereik. Tog bly ons daartoe verbind om die narratief te verander, met die wet saam te werk en alles moontlik te doen om die verdwaalde perdeprobleem te beëindig omdat ons lief is vir perde," het klubvoorsitter, Clayton Jacobs, gesê.
