Not smart meters, we need smart electricity system, says Congress

Rajasthan has initiated the installation of smart electricity meters statewide, enabling consumers to monitor usage in real time and make advance payments, similar to prepaid mobile services.

However, the Congress party is opposing the Rs 14,000 crore project, criticising the replacement of functioning traditional meters with costly smart ones. Raj PCC Secretary Giriraj Khandelwal called the move an “anti-people policy dressed as a digital reform,” questioning its transparency and motive.
