Quantity bought from key producing states up 13% y-o-y
WHEAT PROCUREMENT BY the government for the 2025-26 rabi marketing season (April-June) has been completed with a total purchase of over 29.92 million tonne (MT), the highest since the 2021-22 season.
With a small quantity of arrivals reported only in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, the total grain procurement, according to officials, will be sufficient for distribution through a public distribution system and carry out a market intervention programme.
"While arrivals have been small, sufficient stock is currently available with millers, traders as well as the government agencies currently," Mukesh Khatod, a trader from Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, told FE.
The quantity of wheat purchased from farmers in key producing states so far is 13% higher than in the same period last year.
