Govt wants to fix accountability by putting numbers to performance

THE GOVERNMENT IS formalising a simple proposition: what gets measured gets done. A new Monthly Administrative Scorecard will assess the administrative efficiency of secretaries and their teams, aiming to reduce delays, improve follow-through and bring greater accountability to the Centre’s day-to-day functioning.

The new framework, shared with ministries earlier this month, is designed to inject real “skin in the game” into senior bureaucracy by measuring what often escapes scrutiny. The message from the top is blunt — results matter, excuses don’t — and that no “chalta hai” attitude or accepting mediocrity, will be tolerated as the government wants results.
