THE RUPEE ON Monday sank to its record closing low of 89.5587, down 10 paise or 0.11%, pressured by maturing non-deliverable forward (NDF) positions, along with a persistent bearish pall on the currency.

Intra-day, the currency slumped to 89.78.The Reserve Bank of India sold dollars to support the currency around 89.70 per dollar level, market participants said. The intervention was sporadic, they said.
