Sharp Rise in Veggie Prices as Rains Disrupt Supplies

The prices of key vegetables—tomato, brinjal, and beans—have witnessed a sharp increase in the past couple of weeks due to heavy rainfall in major producing regions, leading to crop damage and transportation disruptions, according to traders at Azadpur Mandi, Asia's largest wholesale market for fruits and vegetables.
According to the price monitoring cell of the department of consumer affairs, the retail modal (average) price of tomato across the country rose to ₹39/kg as of Sunday, a 39% increase from ₹28/kg recorded
