Tariffs and Budget will see insolvencies rise, advisors say

SOUTH West company insolvencies are expected to rise this year as businesses grapple with economic uncertainty and new US tariffs, according to advisory firm Interpath.

In the first quarter of 2025 the number of Westcountry firms filing for administration was relatively flat compared to Q1 last year, but Interpath said there was a risk of a “sharp rise” in businesses collapsing.

It said its analysis of Companies House data found there were 34 administrations in the South West in Q1 of 2025, almost unchanged from the same period 12 months ago, and only a marginal fall against Q4 of 2024 (39 cases).
